Fars i balises
Moll de costa, Port de Tarragona.
Tarragona, 17.07.2025 – 28.09.2025.
Lighthouses and beacons are primitive constructions that serve to indicate, through light or sound signals, the maritime routes for sailors; they also serve to mark potential dangers for ships, such as rocks, breakwaters, sandbanks, and so on.
In both cases — especially in the case of lighthouses — these are often oversized, slender structures, technically well designed and engineered to fulfill their function in highly hostile environments. From this contrast — between the impassive rotating light in the silence of the night and the wind and waves assailing it from outside — lighthouses and beacons have cultivated an image that is as poetic as it is unsettling, at times surrounded by a certain mystery.
This exhibition offers a review of the structure and design of these constructions, proposing new paths to explore (both from an architectural and conceptual perspective), opening the door to a reflection on how these coastal icons can engage in dialogue with the contemporary landscape and the new forms of signaling in the digital age.
